Partners deliver bio-based packaging laminate

A partnership between Innovia Films and Dutch company Bio4Pack has resulted in a bio-based packaging laminate structure being developed using renewable and compostable NatureFlex, and which Aardse Droom is now using for its organic Sapana Delibars product.

Aardse Droom is now using BBII80 for its organic Sapana Delibars product

The laminate structure, BBII80, features Innovia Films’ compostable cellulose NatureFlex NK Matt film as the outer layer. NatureFlex NK Matt has been developed primarily as a lamination grade and to offer a premium natural paper appearance.

A metallized NatureFlex film enhances the moisture barrier, making it suitable for a wide range of applications such as cereal bars and coffee (beans and ground). Seal integrity is ensured through the use of a renewable Bio-PE film.

Bio4Pack director Patrick Gerritsen said: ‘We liked recommending and using NatureFlex films in this application because they fit perfectly, not only with the ethos of the organic Sapana Delibars’ brand, but also because of the barrier properties they can bring to a laminate pack structure such as BBII80.’

Andy Sweetman, Innovia Films’ marketing manager for packaging and sustainability, added: ‘Our NatureFlex films are increasingly being used in bio-laminate packaging constructions such as BBII80 to provide the necessary barrier.  The new NatureFlex NK Matt film gives a quality natural look and feel to this application.  The Bio4Pack/Innovia Films partnership is one of several that we are developing across the globe with key industry players to ensure we can meet demand for innovative, bespoke bio-based packaging solutions.’
