Toshiba Tec Europe, a retail and industrial automation solutions provider, has announced that it joined the IATA Strategic Partnerships program.

The IATA Strategic Partnerships is the vehicle through which suppliers and service providers to the air transport industry interact with IATA and its member airlines in the development of industry solutions and their implementation through various industry channels.

In its effort to simplify the business, IATA is leading an initiative to introduce radio frequency (RFID) technology in baggage handling industry-wide by conducting a pilot project with key airlines and airports worldwide. The objective of the project is to measure and validate:
•  The interoperability of the technology
•  The processes associated with RFID
•  All costs and benefits associated with the new technology

Major RFID technology benefits:
•  Fewer mishandled bags, reduced payments to passengers
•  Fewer complaints in customer service: overall improvement in customer service leading to greater customer retention
•  Less time spent on baggage reconciliation
•  Less manual intervention, lower labor costs
•  Lower maintenance costs

Each industry has a unique set of supply chain challenges. Toshiba Tec Europe provides expertise as technology leaders, capable of delivering functionalities that enable reduced cycle times and reduce transportation costs in the air transport industry.

The Toshiba Tec SX-series of barcode label printers, using SPRINT, are the only in the world that are capable to encode and print label information straight onto RFID tags.

This major technology breakthrough for RFID tag vendors brings a practical solution to market that combines Toshiba’s quality and innovation with cost-effective RFID tag production.

SPRINT (Short Pitch RFID Encoding Technology) is a customer-driven solution for RFID-mandated suppliers, engineered by Toshiba Tec.

The Toshiba Tec B-SX label printer series use a unique ‘head-up’ feature, whereby the print head is lifted over the chip to protect the sensitive smart labels. This also protects the print head. This innovative design feature allows users a high MTBF (mean time between failure) of the printer and a low risk of damage to the microchip on the label.
Toshiba Tec’s European network of service offices will support IATA and its initiatives and assist in the development of industry standards, facilitating the implementation of these standards, through the established aviation industry channels.
