IFS to show short-run packaging solutions for commercial printers
- Foliant, Petratto and SCS to be promoted

- Solutions service a growing market demand

Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS) will show technology designed to permit commercial printers to enter the short-run packaging market at next month’s Packaging Innovations exhibition.

IFS is the exclusive distributor of Horizon quick-response finishing solutions in the UK and Ireland, but will exhibit solutions from Foliant, Petratto and SCS.

This will include the Foliant Mercury 400SF laminator (pictured, top), while IFS staff will be on hand to talk through creative systems and solutions supplied by IFS from SCS Automaberg and Petratto.

IFS said the Mercury 400SF laminator is easy to introduce into a busy bindery due to its compact design, and incorporates a feeder and sheet separator. It also has a rising pile back separation stream feeder and a suction paper feed head.

SCS Automaberg’s customized solutions for bookbinding and finishing include the Trim & Perf, a versatile and productive machine that can die cut and perforate already folded or saddle-stitched items to create shaped items.

Petratto’s flagship Metro system, shown at previous Packaging Innovation events, can be built to individual specifications but can include a long in-feed table, a short side lay-side register and a camera integrity system to read barcodes, as well as gatefold and pocketfold attachments.

There is an optional perforation shaft for scoring and perforation while other applications include a pile feeder, a short hopper feeder and die-cutting capabilities. Additionally, glue can be placed in any XY direction, while double-sided adhesive tape can be applied to a variety of products. Fugitive glue can be used too.

Bryan Godwyn, IFS joint managing director, said: ‘We have carefully created a portfolio of select solutions to service a growing market demand and are looking forward to showing commercial printers how we help them deliver new creative solutions to open up additional revenue streams.’

Godwyn added: The main attraction of the Metro is that it allows commercial operations to develop their business through fulfillment of their client’s entire project and packaging printers can get involved in shorter-run projects.

'Also, specialist houses can deliver more complex packaging and mailing services. As a result companies that are getting more involved in composition project completion, including print, plastic cards, inserts, capacity folders or mailers, will benefit from this solution.’

Packaging Innovations takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, UK on February 27-28.
