Schreiner wins Finat innovation award

Digital security seal enables smartphone tampering detection in real time.

Schreiner MediPharm has received the Group Award for Innovation at the Finat Label Competition 2026 for a newly developed security seal with an integrated digital authentication function, enabling smartphone-based verification and enhanced protection of pharmaceutical products throughout the supply chain.

The security seal combines a covert digital authentication feature, a first-opening indication and a guilloche pattern as an overt authenticity feature in a single construction. Developed specifically for pharmaceutical secondary packaging, the transparent seal targets counterfeiting, tampering attempts and illegal exchange of pharmaceutical products.

At the core of the seal is Cryptoglyph digital authentication technology from the Swiss company AlpVision, printed with high precision in the seal's transparent area and invisible to the human eye. Authenticity can be verified with a smartphone app at any time. If the seal has been tampered with and resealed using adhesive tape, the digital feature is no longer readable, making tampering attempts quickly detectable.

Stakeholders along the supply chain, including brand inspectors, distributors and customs authorities, can perform checks in real time using a standard smartphone, with verification data available to the brand owner for fraud detection, geotracking or market analysis. Security cuts integrated in the seal, a specially adapted adhesive and the seal's curved shape provide additional tamper protection.

The seal fulfills the requirements of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive and DIN EN 16679:2014 for tamper-evident packaging.
