Stahl launches metallic coatings portfolio

The Senoprint portfolio provides a recyclable alternative to traditional foil stamping.

Stahl has launched its Senoprint portfolio of metallic coatings, bringing high-brilliance metallic finishes for packaging applications worldwide.

Enabling customers to create striking metallic effects directly during the print run, Senoprint offers a proven, recyclable alternative to traditional foil stamping.

The Senoprint metallic coatings portfolio builds on a well-established and commercially successful range previously known as LustreCoat, which served customers across North America. By bringing this proven portfolio together under one aligned global brand, Stahl is making these high-brilliance metallic coatings available to brand owners and converters worldwide. The range offers a more cost-effective and recyclable alternative to hot foil stamping and cold foil application, helping customers simplify production, reduce waste and achieve a luxurious mirror-like finish without the complexity of a separate foiling operation.

Designed for premium packaging and labeling applications, the enhanced portfolio includes higher brilliance levels and can be used across paper and board in sheet-fed, screen and flexo processes, as well as narrow web applications. Senoprint currently includes silver and gold finishes, with additional metallic colors achievable through overprinting.

Every metallic coating application is paired with a protective topcoat. Developed in-house by Stahl and formulated as a single system with the metallic coatings, the topcoats help preserve brilliance while providing robust resistance to abrasion, handling and environmental factors. This reduces the risk of damage and helps keep packaging brilliant throughout its lifecycle.

Available in UV-based and water-based formulations, the range has been engineered to meet worldwide requirements and supports lower-VOC packaging. The coatings are designed to be de-inked and recovered through standard paper recycling streams, helping customers reduce waste and respond to evolving packaging regulations, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), as well as the broader global shift towards more circular packaging.

Paul Grzebielucha, group director packaging coatings at Stahl, said: 'With Senoprint, we are bringing our proven technologies together under one global brand. The portfolio combines premium visual performance, production efficiency and packaging recyclability, supporting our customers to create packaging that stands out on shelf while supporting more efficient, future-ready production.'

Stahl showcases Senoprint at Loupe Americas 2026 in Chicago, booth 727, from September 15-17, where visitors can explore the metallic coatings portfolio first-hand and discuss application opportunities with Stahl’s technical experts.
