API Foils to reorganize its Livingston operations

API Foils has proposed a major site reorganization at its location in Livingston, Scotland in preparation for significant investment in new equipment.

API Foils to reorganize its Livingston operations

The site produces decorative foils for high-quality packaging, and has been particularly successful in the premium wines and spirits markets, including supplying the foil on the labels and cartons of many of Scotland’s leading whisky brands.

The proposed reorganization would result in the site focusing on foil manufacturing with investment in new metalizing and coating equipment, which would significantly increase the total plant output.

Customer service and conversion for customers in Scotland and the deep sea markets would be retained in Livingston, while a new sales and service operation would be established in England to improve penetration there.

Will Oldham, managing director of API Foils Europe, a division of API Group, said: ‘As our central manufacturing site, Livingston is the heart of our business and by streamlining operations and focusing on manufacturing it would enable the site to achieve higher productivity.

‘This is a crucial opportunity for the site to upgrade its equipment and secure its position for the long-term. Unfortunately the proposed changes would result in the number of roles at the site reducing and accordingly a consultation process has commenced.

‘Nevertheless, a successful transition to a new operating model would result in a higher quality, more sustainable business for all stakeholders; customers, employees and shareholders.’
