PPG launches Teslin Envos

Bio-based synthetic paper cuts carbon footprint by up to 25 percent.

PPG has launched Teslin Envos, a synthetic paper substrate with 30 percent bio-based content that delivers up to a 25 percent reduction in carbon footprint compared with its Teslin SP1000 substrate, for secure credentials, durable labels and identification applications.

The new substrate suits a broad range of applications, including secure credentials such as government IDs and passports, durable labels, specialty labels, RFID labels and identification cards where long-term performance is critical.

PPG Teslin Envos synthetic paper offers enhanced features, including a bright, white appearance and improved tear and puncture resistance, tensile strength and flexibility. The substrate is also compatible with a broad range of printing and finishing processes. The result is a lower-carbon-footprint, high-performance material that delivers durability, premium print quality and security.

'Customers are increasingly looking for materials that support carbon reduction goals without requiring performance tradeoffs,' said Diane Merzbach, PPG global strategic market manager, Teslin substrate, Specialty Products. 'PPG Teslin Envos substrate demonstrates how innovation can support these sustainability objectives while delivering product improvements without process adjustments.'

PPG Teslin Envos substrate is manufactured at a facility where PPG applies purchased renewable electricity credits. The product is available in a 10mm thickness, with additional options planned for development. PPG’s synthetic paper portfolio includes standard-grade PPG Teslin substrate and PPG Teslin Bio substrate.
