Premier Coating installs Vetaphone corona treater

Premier Coating and Converters has installed a Vetaphone corona treating system at its production facility in Andover, UK, upgrading the surface treatment capability on its coating line to handle new plastic formulations entering the label and narrow web market.

The installed unit is a 1,720mm wide 12 kW VE2C-B(C4) station with ceramic electrodes delivering 6 kW per side treatment, powered by two iCorona-2UK 6 kW generators with two iHP200U transformers and monitored via Vetaphone's iCC8 control panel. Ozone extraction is handled by two RD62UR blower fans.

PCC, which has manufactured self-adhesive labelstock for more than 40 years, applies adhesives to materials up to 1,500mm wide with coat weights ranging from 14 gsm to 65 gsm, running 27-meter ovens on a daily two-operator shift pattern. The company specializes in water-based acrylic adhesive constructions for the label and narrow web sector.

'The new treater is popular with our operators and is easily reaching the performance levels we were hoping for,' said Ben Matthews, strategic procurement manager at PCC. 'It allows us to run faster and be more efficient without sacrificing quality.'

'As new plastic formulations enter the labeling market, it becomes increasingly important to be able to manage and precisely control the corona system to ensure that the correct dyne level is attained,' noted Kevin McKell, chief sales officer at Vetaphone.
