Visualis3R launches embellishment mapping tool

New feature resolves inconsistent terminology across global print finishing workflows.

Visualis3R has launched a Layer Mapping Manager, a feature designed to resolve inconsistent naming conventions for print embellishments across global design and production workflows.

The tool allows users to map any incoming spot color, foil, varnish or other finishing element to the correct embellishment effect, regardless of the name a designer has applied. A finish called Spot UV by one designer may be referred to as varnish, lacquer or lack by another, creating confusion and potential production errors when files move between design and pre-press teams. The Layer Mapping Manager eliminates this by allowing any term to be assigned and documented without imposing rigid naming standards on designers.

'The many terms used in the industry to define colors and special embellishment finishes create confusion and inhibit the ability of designers to communicate their intent to personnel later in the print embellishment process,' said Mark Geeves, director of sales and marketing for Color-Logic, the exclusive distributor of Visualis3R. 'The Visualis3R Layer Mapping Manager now enables the designer to assign and document any name desired to a finish used in the embellishment process.'

The feature is described as a first in the industry and is designed to support emerging embellishment standards as they develop.
