Bunting Magnetics has announced the 2011-2012 recipients of the Walter F. Bunting and June A. Bunting Memorial Scholarships. This year the company awarded eighteen scholarships with a 12 percent increase in the dollar amount given to each student. The scholarships, which are now worth USD $500 apiece, are awarded to its employees’ college-age children for either university or vocational training.

‘We began this program in 2000 to support the aspirations of our employee’s families,’ said Robert J. Bunting Sr, president of Bunting. ‘Our goal is to continually improve and strengthen it. My parents, for whom these scholarships are named, were very close to their employees and valued their hard work and dedication. So, this program is something that is very close to my heart.’

On August 3, 1959, Walter and June Bunting founded Bunting Magnetics in Chicago, Illinois. The original location, on Chicago’s north side, was a 500 square foot office on Fullerton Avenue. The company started as a stocking distributor for cast Alnico magnets and small ceramic magnet assemblies designed for industrial use.

From those humble beginnings, the company, headquartered in Newton, Kansas, has expanded to seven locations including its Flexible Die Division, also in Newton; its Magnet Materials Division in Elk Grove Village, Illinois; the Magnet Applications Limited (MAL) manufacturing operation in Berkhamsted, UK; Magnet Application Inc facility in Dubois, Pennsylvania; a purchasing office located in Ningbo, China, and an official licensee in Boronia Victoria, Australia, Alpha Magnetics.
