Codimag integrates Aniflo into digital workflow at Labelexpo

Codimag demonstrated the Viva 420 Aniflo at Labelexpo Americas, demonstrating the integration of the offset technology into a digital workflow.

Aniflo is an anilox offset printing unit that reportedly eliminates production variables. As the ink volume is distributed by an anilox roller, it provides perfect control over the ink volume and density, without the need to adjust ink keys. As the Aniflo does not use a relief plate and prints using a rubber blanket, dot gain is not related to the print pressure.

Pascal Duchêne, Codimag’s managing director, said: ‘This allows printers to have very reliable press fingerprinting, which cannot be jeopardized by too much ink, too much print pressure or a wrong roller setting. As the Aniflo system is predictable and repeatable, your press make-ready is much faster and your set-up waste much lower.’

In order to prove the point, Codimag ran a full print shop on its stand at the show, including EskoArtwork workflow and color management tools, Agfa thermal CTP system, Toray plate processor and the Viva 420 Aniflo.

For each job printed during the show, a print sample was put on a board for direct comparison with a color proof and the same label printed on the previous days.

Codimag also provided information about the production cost of labels on the Viva 420 Aniflo. The company claims that the Aniflo brings the break-even point, compared with digital, down to around 1,000 feet of material for all the jobs printed at Labelexpo.

Pascal Duchêne continued: ‘Once the plates and make ready are paid for, the price per label decreases, while for digital the price per label remains the same regardless of quantity. If your plate and make-ready costs are low enough, you compete with digital on short runs.’
