Highcon: Web-to-pack the future

The world is moving towards highly customized packaging, which will see the rise of web-to-pack capabilities, providing private label products to small and independent retailers.
That is the view of Highcon, developer of the direct-to-pack Euclid digital folding carton cutting and creasing system. Speaking at a meeting to officially introduce the Euclid system to the trade press, chief executive officer and co-founder Aviv Ratzman (pictured, top) said: ‘Packaging is a growth area, and the market will move to shorter runs.
‘More products will become personalized, leading to web-to-pack capabilities where customers can order very short runs through an online portal. This will create a market for private labels for independent retailers.’
The Euclid system transforms a previously analog process into a digital workflow, moving post-press processing in-line with pre-press and printing systems, hence the description of the Euclid as a direct-to-pack solution, and further helping streamline the production process for folding cartons.
Supply chain simplification is one of three needs that brand owners have when it comes to the production of packaging, added packaging industry consultant Mike Ferrari, along with shelf appeal and sustainability.
'Sustainability pressures have long been passed from brand owners down to their suppliers, and these are now moving along the chain to the printers. ‘Everyone must meet these standards these days; it’s what consumer product companies are looking for.’
