Northern Monk adopts StarDirect technology
The UK-based craft brewery becomes the first to use All4Labels’ linerless system.
Northern Monk has become the first UK craft brewery to use StarDirect technology, a linerless label system that prints directly onto the backing substrate, eliminating traditional label material waste.
The Leeds-based brewery partnered with All4Labels UK in 2024 to improve print quality, production efficiency and sustainability across its packaging. The collaboration began with precision color matching, fast turnaround times and reliable application performance for Northern Monk's frequent product launches.
'Our relationship with All4Labels has been fantastic throughout our partnership. Their flexibility, communication and ability to maintain quality across every project make them an invaluable partner,' commented Graham Hodkinson, packaging support manager at Northern Monk. 'Being the first in the UK to use StarDirect allowed us to remove waste entirely while maintaining the premium look we strive for. It's a perfect reflection of our commitment to innovation and sustainability.'
Northern Monk's Northern Wild release marked the first use of StarDirect in the UK craft beer industry. The brewery, known for creating beers that 'delight, unite and do right,' frequently launches new and limited-edition products requiring packaging speed, consistency and creative execution.

The partnership has delivered improved operational efficiency with smoother label application and reduced production downtime; enhanced brand expression that meets the brewery's creative and aesthetic standards; and reduced environmental impact through StarDirect adoption.
All4Labels has also worked with Northern Monk on creative label formats, including peel and reveal labels, giving the brewery space to tell deeper stories about its beers, collaborators and inspiration through design and storytelling.
The brewery maintains exclusive artist collaborations that require uncompromising print quality across its packaging.
