Hammer Packaging participates in Butterfly Beltway Project

Staff from US converter Hammer Packaging released Monarch butterflies on September 15 in celebration of becoming a part of the Seneca Park Zoo’s Butterfly Beltway Project.

In 2002, the Seneca Park Zoo launched its Butterfly Beltway program to encourage butterfly gardens that would support the migrating Monarch. ‘Hammer became our 99th garden site and joins four other corporations as pilot sites for the 2010 season. The goal of the project each year is to spread the word about the importance of pollinators and the challenges they are facing,’ said Tina Crandall-Gommel, the zoo’s conservation education coordinator. ‘We hope to attract more companies with sustainability as a priority to the project.’

The Monarchs released during the celebration will soon begin their migration to warmer climates in Mexico, California and Florida for the winter months. Hammer’s new garden consists of specific plants that create a habitat of food and shelter that will help generations of butterflies to survive and flourish.

‘As a company that is focused on supporting the community, as well as, our on-going corporate efforts of sustainability, we are proud to be a corporate sponsor of the Seneca Park Zoo’s Butterfly Beltway Project,’ said Jim Hammer, president and CEO.
