Avery Dennison launches thin conformable PE film

Avery Dennison launched Fasson PE-LG, an ultra-thin conformable PE film label for the food market, at Labelexpo Europe. The 70-micron facestock and a new high-tack adhesive are claimed to increase shelf appeal and performance and have a strong price/performance ratio.

‘The food industry is continuously challenged to find new ways to differentiate themselves on the shelf to win consumer preference,’ said Joanna Wolska-Kinnening, senior product manager, films, for Avery Dennison label and packaging materials Europe. ‘However, given the on-going pressure on costs, the industry remains hesitant to migrate to more premium packaging. We are offering a way out of this dilemma, and with Fasson PE-LG, we believe we can convince premium chilled food brand owners to use filmic pressure-sensitive materials.’

For converters, Fasson PE-LG is said to result in more labels per reel, lower waste levels and reduced transport costs. Avery claims that the new material uses the thinnest PE film in food labeling, alongside a 50g FSC-certified mixed credit liner to make the product even more sustainable.

Fasson PE-LG completes the Avery Dennison thin range of products dedicated to the food market. The moisture-resistant PE facestock resists wrinkling and retains its looks over time. It also improves conformability on irregular shapes and stands out in chilled compartments. Available in white and clear (for a no-label-look), Fasson PE LG labels are suitable for premium foods such as freshly packed meat, sliced sausages and cheese.

The PE-LG comes with a new adhesive, the S4020N, which is said to ensure excellent initial tack and strong adhesion below 5 deg C. S4020N can be used with many different substrates, including cardboard, plastic films, HDPE, PP, PET and nylon.
