Herma unveils dual layer coating technology

Herma showed its new generation of acrylic-based dispersion adhesives at Labelexpo Europe. Adhesive 62G combines the properties of hot-melt adhesives with those provided by existing dispersion adhesives. It is said to offer secured adhesion of moist surfaces, application temperature down to minus 10 degrees Celsius, very high tack, good adhesion to small diameters and curved surfaces, excellent die-cutting properties as well as certification for direct food contact (ISEGA).
Adhesive 62Gpt is a further development of the standard adhesive 62G. Providing improved tack – especially for low temperature and moist surfaces – it is well suited for blow-on-applications.
The new HermaperfectStick (62Dps) uses multi-layer coating technology to apply an additional, second layer, which enhances the initial tack of labels applied in testing conditions, such as low temperatures and moisture. The second layer influences the flow behavior of the adhesive, ensuring it bonds faster and better with the surface to which the label is being attached. The adhesive layer is suitable for direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs (reduction factor 4).
‘A new age of multi-layer curtain coating technology’ was also launched. With Hermaperfectcut, acrylic adhesives are applied in conjunction with a new specially developed second layer. It is said to be superior in the processing, without negatively affecting the adhesion properties. The new construction provides higher reliability as the converter can decrease the die-cutting pressure by 20 percent. In addition, the adhesive coating applied by the multi-layer process ‘bursts’ faster, creating high cohesion which decreases risk of adhesive bleeding and reduces die-cutter wear.
The company also exhibited Lam, a label paper for printing with a CO2 laser (black color change). It cannot be damaged as CO2 laser printing is a contactless technology. The method allows labels to be individually inscribed anywhere in the process and the material’s protective coating suits it to all applications requiring non-smudge, scratchproof label paper resistant to oil and grease. Downtimes can be reduced as inscription with a CO2 laser is a low-maintenance operation.
