APP joins The Sustainability Consortium

Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) has become a member of the The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), a group that brings together large corporations from all over the world to work collaboratively to improve consumer product sustainability.

APP is the newest member of TSC’s paper, pulp and forestry (PPF) working group. The PPF sector working group, similar to TSC's eight other industry sectors, collaborates to create standards for sustainable products in their industry. The PPF sector working group has issued recommended standards for products that include toilet paper, copy paper and lumber.

Other TSC working groups cover retail, measurement science and electronics.

‘We’re pleased to join the TSC to work with others in our industry to promote sustainable forest management principles and to ensure that no deforestation fiber enters the pulp and paper industry,’ said Aida Greenbury, managing director for sustainability at APP.

Dr Nicole Hardiman, senior researcher of paper, pulp and forestry at TSC, said: ‘Industry leaders like APP are critical to the success of TSC and its working groups. These key participants can help us identify the most important opportunities in the industry and how we can use them to improve the sustainability of the supply chain.’

APP, along with more than 100 other member and guest organizations, recently attended TSC’s spring member summit in Atlanta in May. Participants attended cross-sector workshops as well as working group meetings.
