Springfield Solutions introduces packaging mock-up service

Springfield Solutions has launched Mock>it, a new packaging mock-up service in response to customer demand and to be facilitated by an investment in two Epson printers, a Kongsberg cutting table and a Komfi laminator.

Springfield Solutions has invested more than 200,000 GBP (around 320,000 USD) in equipment for Mock>it

Mock>it enables Springfield Solutions to create short runs of prototype packaging to help companies develop totally new and innovative packaging types, carry out market research and create shelf displays or sales samples.

The move allows Springfield Solutions to provide a 360-degree package production service from initial concepts through development, market research, production and post-production management of the client’s brand across global markets and different packaging substrates.

Springfield Solutions has invested more than 200,000 GBP (around 320,000 USD) in equipment for Mock>it, including Epson 7900 and 7900WT printers, and a Esko Kongsberg XE10 cutting table and Komfi Amiga 52 laminator.

Matt Dass, joint managing director and head of innovation at Springfield Solutions, said Mock>it has enabled the company to print as little as one or hundreds of samples which are cut out, glued together and laminated to create retail quality prototype packaging.

‘Mock>it is about helping companies create the very best packaging they can,’ Dass said. ‘When developing new packaging, whether that is an improvement on an existing type or creating a totally new solution from scratch, companies need small production runs of their design concepts to use in market research and put in front of focus groups. It is this that informs the bigger decision about how packaging should look and function.

‘A number of our customers have enquired about this service which suggested we had a small but significant gap in the offering we provide, so we decided to fill it. Mock>it enables our clients to experiment with their packaging and with our help, find the best solution for each of their products.

As part of the service, Springfield Solutions’ IOM3-accreditated packaging and supply chain team will work with client companies to carry out a packaging and process evaluation. The evaluation can help companies identify any changes needed to ensure their packaging achieves global sustainability responsibilities and reduce supply chain costs.

‘Mock>it is not just about creating mock packaging to see if it looks nice, it is about working closely with a client to identify the best packaging solutions possible from every perspective – artistic, environmental and practical – and submitting those to the rigors of marketing testing,’ added Dass.

‘This, combined with the level of expertise we have amassed in the company over the past 40 years, means we can offer a service that ensures all clients go to market having identified precisely which packaging solution will display their products in the best possible way.’
