Share your original L&L digital printing project

The February/March 2015 edition of Labels & Labeling features a special front cover that was printed by Precision Printing, a cross-media marketing printer located in East London. The 16,000 covers were produced digitally on an HP Indigo 10000 press. Every single cover has a different design variation.

Gary Peeling, group CEO at Precision Printing said: 'Digital printing has had the ability to print one copy products for a long time, but the challenge is: how do you create the originals? Everybody enjoys receiving a unique product. It's something to be cherished. We're all different and the things that we're sent should be different.'

The project was inspired by Coca-Cola Israel’s marketing campaign that involved printing millions of Diet Coke labels with different variations of a kaleidoscopic design. Both projects have made use of a powerful piece of software developed by HP called Mosaic. The Mosaic software allows a vast array of color variations to be automatically generated from a starting design then fed directly to a digital press. Watch a video about the production here.

Tim Gordon, publishing director for Labels & Labeling, said: 'We want to draw attention to the fact that they are all unique covers, and the technology behind this project is an industry first. We are very excited to be a part of this kind of innovation that is only just beginning to impact the labels and packaging space, and brings the opportunity to enrich the magazine printing sector. Print is a valuable communication tool and digital printing can stimulate it's reach.'

Digital print accounts for almost 12 percent of the value of label sales despite being only 1-2 percent of label volume. If you're a subscriber to the print magazine, the Labels & Labeling team encourages you to share a photo of your custom front cover on Twitter (@LabelsNLabeling) using the hashtags #MyOriginalLL #StayExtraordinary. Photos can also be emailed with captions to editorial@labelsandlabeling.com.

A selection of the photos collected will be chosen to be published in the April/May 2015 edition of Labels & Labeling, and can be viewed in the image gallery below.
