Kama adds new tech for short runs to meet industry megatrends

Kama has added a number of new technologies that it said represent the first complete option for the production of short runs of folding boxes.

The Kama FF52i is in the 52cm format

At drupa 2016, Kama will give the world premier to the new FF52i folder gluer and DC 76 ASB automatic die-cutting unit. The DC 76 ASB is based on the ProCut model for commercial runs and has been optimized for use in folding carton production especially for short runs, digitally printed runs and versioning with AutoRegister and the Kama SBU (stripping and blanking unit), which works without the use of any tools. The DC 76 ASB features the latest in servo technology, while the newly developed Kama FF52i is in the 52cm format.

Kama will also present an inspection system for all relevant parameters important for folding cartons in pharmaceuticals packaging, including flap codes, pharma codes and the printed image.

Kama said the combination of the technologies has been optimized for very fast job and format changes and electronic job tickets, and fits into the digital workflow carrying out all the applications from the printed sheet to the ready-to-deliver folding box. With extremely short set-up times, faster finishing, in-line stripping without tools and automated set-up, Kama said this ‘paves the way for making short-run converting of folding boxes both efficient and profitable’. At drupa, it will demonstrate the changeover from straight line to straight line carton in five minutes.

These technologies will be on show at the Kama stand (A15) in hall 2 at drupa 2016. They will also be shown as part of a workflow together with the HP Indigo 30000 digital press.
