Hoenle extends UV dosimetry system to LED

MacsStrips 950 LED brings phosphorescence measurement to 365-395 nm LED curing.

Hoenle has expanded its UV Scan MACS dosimetry system with the macsStrips 950 LED, a new sensor strip variant designed specifically for LED UV curing systems, bringing the system's patented delayed phosphorescence measurement technology to LED wavelengths for the first time.

The MacsStrips 950 LED cover the LED wavelengths most commonly used in production, 365, 385 and 395 nm, across a dose range of 60 to 950 mJ/sqcm. The strips measure UV dose directly on the substrate, enabling local evaluation of intensity variations within a UV LED array that blanket measurement methods cannot capture. Each strip is individually calibrated before use, compensating for production and storage variations.

The system replaces conventional color-change indicator strips, which can deliver incorrect readings if affected by storage conditions. Unlike those strips, MacsStrips require no refrigeration and remain stable for more than 12 months under standard room conditions. The MacsReader readout unit stores up to 2,000 measurements locally with no cloud connection required, and data can be exported via USB.

Comparative measurements show a 1:1 correlation with the Power Puck II industry standard, while the strips' compact format allows use in printing and coating applications where the Power Puck II cannot fit.
