Avery Dennison integrates Impinj Gen2X into RFID portfolio

Partnership enhances inventory control and anti-counterfeiting capabilities for retailers.

Avery Dennison has integrated Impinj M800 series chips with Gen2X support into its leading portfolio of RFID inlays, enabling enhanced inventory control, item tracking and anti-counterfeiting measures for retail, apparel and logistics operators.

The collaboration addresses critical enterprise challenges, including speeding up inventory processes, improving tag read ranges and reducing operational costs. Gen2X integration is now available across all M8 products, from the AD Miniweb M830 series for general retail and apparel to the AD Frog 3D M830 for asset and package tagging.

'This exciting development demonstrates Avery Dennison's commitment to innovation leadership, as well as the value we place in our robust ecosystem of technology partners,' stated Mathieu De Backer, general manager at Avery Dennison Smartrac. 'Our leading edge RF knowledge and deep understanding of clients pain points through advanced simulation models allow us to optimize Gen2X capabilities across a diverse range of use cases.'

The enhanced technology enables faster readings and higher, more accurate read rates, particularly beneficial for operators in dense environments. Avery Dennison's comprehensive portfolio of RFID inlays and labels, combined with platforms like Optica and atma.io connected product cloud, harnesses Gen2X for real-time visibility across complex supply chains and granular product journey monitoring from manufacturing to consumer.

Additional capabilities include sophisticated multi-layered protection against product diversion and fraud, streamlined operations with reduced labor costs, and improved accuracy in warehouse and retail environments. The technology also supports sustainable practices through precise inventory management and circular economy initiatives.

'Through continued collaboration with partners like Impinj, we're anticipating market needs while defining the future of intelligent labeling and digital identification,' De Backer noted. 'The convergence of Gen2X capabilities with integrated processing power signals a new era where every product becomes a connected gateway to enhanced customer experiences, operational efficiency and sustainable business practices.'

Gahan Richardson, EVP and general manager at Impinj, emphasized the importance of the collaboration. 'Evolving enterprise use cases and item category expansion are driving the need for RAIN performance advancement, making Gen2X capability increasingly important,' he commented. 'We're excited to see Avery Dennison leverage the advanced features of Impinj's M800 series chips, enabling them to realize the full potential of Gen2X and deliver impactful results to the world's leading companies.'
