Most label converters and package printers carry a fair degree of stock from paper and film reels, to sheet materials, inks and varnishes, cutting, embossing and foiling dies, spare parts, hot and cold foils, cartons, tapes and staples, and other packaging materials, as well as holding stocks of finished products for customer call-off, or even pre-printed stock products labels or packaging. New label or printed packaging stocks, including inks, cutters, other tooling, packing and cleaning materials, foils, lamps, etc. are coming in all the time.

All these stocks of production items or finished goods need to be managed as efficiently as possible, and this is undertaken in an MIS inventory management or stock control system . a set of hardware and software based tools that automate the process of tracking inventory.
