Jandu constructs new plant
Jandu Engineering Works, a machine manufacturer based out of Noida, Delhi, is constructing a new plant in an area of about 35,000 sq ft with a total investment of Rs 4 crore (around 674,000 USD).
The land was bought two years ago and the facility will be ready in another two months. Baldev Singh Jandu, chief executive officer at Jandu Engineering Works, said: ‘That factory will be dedicated to silicone coating machinery and other equipment while the current one in Noida will continue to manufacture label printing presses. We will install all new machinery in the new plant.’
Jandu started production in 1974 and the company was registered as Jandu Engineering Works in 1978. The company was started from a rented facility which was bought out by Jandu in 1984. The manufacturing was shifted to the current facility in Noida in 1997.
Jandu Engineering manufactures customized label printing machines starting from a single unit to five-color units with features such as cold foiling, UV drying, turn bar, amongst others. ‘We are making automated machines. Currently, we are manufacturing our first 8-color label press which will be priced at about Rs 50 lac,’ said Baldev Singh Jandu.
The company makes up to two label presses each month while it takes two to three months to manufacture a silicone coating machine. It sold 16 label printing and die-cutting machines, eight slitter rewinders and installed 12 silicone coating machines in 2013-14. Though most sales are made in North India, Jandu Engineering ships machines across the country. Jandu Engineering does not have any salesman, agents or a sales office.
Growing at a rate of 25 percent year-on-year, the company’s turnover last year was Rs 4 crore (about 674,000 USD) of which Rs 1.75 crore (about 295,000 USD) was from exports. Jandu said: ‘We are booked for next year and half. We sell on personal relationship and word of mouth.’
Looking at the industry trends, Jandu said: ‘I cater to mid-segment of the industry and the main features most of my customers request for are cold foil, UV and automation. The industry wants machine automation now to reduce the involvement of labor in their printing plants.’
At Labelexpo India to be held from October 29 to November 1 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Jandu Engineering will be showcasing its label printing press and slitting machine. The company will also be visiting Labelexpo Americas from September 9-11 in Chicago.
