Focus on label markets: Special label types and constructions

Label converters have always shown ingenuity to solve specific end-user problems. Recent label innovations are explored

The purpose of this article is not to list exhaustively the hundreds of innovative label constructions used today. It is to draw attention to some of the more interesting and unusual recent developments, and to show the ingenuity with which label converters have solved specific end-user problems, and adapted to public concerns over health, raw materials and the environment.

RE-CLOSABLE LABELS

Back in 1968 two American chemists working with 3M developed an adhesive to make what was almost certainly the world’s first re-sealable substrate. Nobody was interested, until 12 years later when 3M launched it as the Post-It - and the rest is history.
